My niece shot her first deer on the Juvy hunt using my AR15 and a load of H4895 and 65gr SGKs. Doe dropped in it's tracks
 
Accurate and disciplined shots will kill em' just as dead! Sounds like you have the right idea with your proposed bullet selection. Barnes is good too!

Yeah, they will work. With good ammo loaded with good quality bullets it'll get the job done. I saw a video of a friends son drop a big doe in its tracks with a .223 Rossi using Win. 55 gr. factory.
 
JW has killed 5 with the 65 SGK and 26 RL15,,pretend you are shooting a bow and it is a death ray,,I mean on the shot angle and placement,,the range should be limited to about 225-250 with bow type angles and placement,,
 
My daughter shot a button buck in the lungs last year with a Nosler 64 gr bonded bullet. There was little blood to track but dead was the deer about 80 yards away. If using a Barnes in a .223, I would recommend a shoulder shot to prevent long(er) runs.
 
Daughter uses 64 gr Winchester Power Points. They work.

Hunt with a .223 like you would a .30-30 and you'll have no issues.
 
right bullet 223 is an effective deer round you can punch shoulders all day long with a 53 grain barnes tsx

buddies son blew the shoulder out on 100 lb field dressed doe at 75 yds droped right there with a 53 grain barnes tsx at a mild 3100 fps muzzle vel

i shot this one jan 1 with a 64 grain bsb from nosler


my new load nosler's new bonded solid base bullet 64 gn over re 15 pushing 3150

she ran 40 yds if that great blood trail

Only one expirience but 55gr hp at 80 yards and went 60 yards with good blood trail. Double lung shot.
