Newbie here, just got a cz 527 carbine in 223. Has a 18.5 inch barrel with a 1/9 twist. Looking at a good deer bullet. I know some folks are skeptical of them, that's not what this is about. I'm thinking I want to use the heaviest bullet my barrel will stabilize. Anyone have any experience with any 223 deer bullet? I see federal makes a 62 and 64gr fusion, also seen the 60gr nosler partion and I've seen some barnes ammo. I need factory loaded ammo since I don't reload.

But that's a hollow point. Wouldn't it blow up? Resulting in little penetration?

It's controlled expansion. TSX is one of the best deer bullets out there.

Deer Assassin can probably expand on that a bit as I believe he is a big fan if memory serves me right. And he would have plenty of real world experience with them.
 
The Barnes TSX will not "blow up". It will penetrate both shoulders and keep on going. Shot several with the 53gr. TSX, it takes a marginal caliber for deer and makes it usable.
 
The Barnes bullet is a one-piece copper slug. It is engineered to expand upon contact and, generally, will punch through hide flesh bone and out the other side leaving significant damage in its wake. Their reputation is solid and it is based on performance in the handloading arena long before loaded factory ammunition adopted it.

You do your part, the Barnes will finish it off.
 
Get the barnes. I shot a deer last week, entering at the last rib, quartering away HARD. Bullet was lodged under the skin in the front of the off side shoulder. Perfect mushroom and fully intact. Mine was a handloaded 62gr in front of a healthy charge of varget.
