In the Middle of no where
I went to the range yesterday morning to hang around to listen to the BS talk (which is the best)and not shoting except my mouth. There was I guy there with a contender pistol with supressor 22 cal rimfire. Quieter than popcorn popping. He was shooting at 300 yds. What impressed me was the groups were around 3 to 3.5 inches at 300 yds. Now that is impressive.
 
No, that's not impressive... that's UNREAL!

I had NO idea a 22 rimfire was capable of that (btw, was it a 22 mag?), esp in pistol configuration with the subsequent MV loss. Not to mention that's an impressive group with a pistol in any caliber.
 
With yesterday's cold front winds.... I don't see how somebody could shoot a .22 at that distance. I'd like 2 watch this person shoot at that range.
 
A match velocity bullet would require 154 inches of elevation at that range if zeroed at 50. It's dropping at over an inch per yard which would require a lot of precision in ranging to even get on the target. I wanna see it. I can get a target 22 under an inch at 100 on days with calm winds but 300 is a whole nuther story.
 
It's not a pistol, but I watched a guy thump several ground sqiurrels at 250 plus using a custom 10-22 with a Shepherd scope set up for it. If I had not seen it, I would have called him a liar to his face. It was simply unreal. I wanted that rifle so bad it hurt! It was just a 22 long rifle, I thought it was a 22 magnum but i looked at the box I was dumbfounded.

I grew up in the country. We had no body behind the hill at our house, for 5 miles, just farmers fields. You would be amazed how far a .22lr will travel. Back then you had to use "kentucky windage", no one had a scope, but we killed many ground hogs at distances people would question now. Go to www.rimfirecentral.com and look at some of the money people put into Ruger 10/22's. One look and you know they never shoot them. The distance everyone brags about being a tack driver, is 50 yards. I'm old, half blind, but I would be embarrassed to brag on 50 yards bench shooting. Just my opinion.
