22-250 Barrel length???

I have a 24" bull barrel for a Savage & was thinking about cutting it down 2-4 inches.

Would this be a good move?

This would be for handling and balance purposes.
It shoots ok now just doesn't balance very well.

i cut my 308 and 223 down to 20. minimal loss of fps but they handle so much better.

i am not sure on the ballistics of the 22-250. i have one but not sureof how long a barrel u need.
 
My concern was the length needed I guess.
As I mentioned this is to make the gun handle better (balance).
Its really nose heavy as is.

Also its a 1:14 twist, I just didn know how short you could cut it without really having accuracy/stablization issues.

I gusse what I should have said you know what you have now, and may not like what it turns out to be after it is cut. It will have to recrowned for sure. It is realy a flip of the coin in what may happen. I Have one that is 24 and it had put the bullet in the same hole at 200 yrds. There is know way I would cut it off. I am wondering if you have a heavy varmet barrel. You may want to consider traiding it for one more of your likeing.
 
Remington makes a 700 with a 22 inch barrel. I don't think I would go any shorter than that. Some cartrides need the extra barrel length to burn all of the powder to reach their potential.

Used the 55 gr vmax with a 3600 fps for a 24" barrel and reduced the velocity to 3400 fps for the 20". (that's figuring 50 fps loss per inch, you will probably not see that much loss)

With a 100 yd zero, you would see 1.8" more drop at 300yds.

To me the convenience of a 20" barrel out weighs the 1.8" drop.
