pu a weatherby SA-08 yesterday in 20ga,shoots great .bought the synthetic ,may order the wood to go on it,points real well.waiting on dove season now

Just a slight bit over your budget, but I have heard lots of good things about the Winchester SX3 20gauge. I have no personal experience with it, but if I was buying one, I would really think hard about this one based on the reports I've got. It shouldered and fit really good when I picked one up, just have'nt shot one.

ive used a beretta 390 in 20ga before and it fits what your looking for but i sold it because im a remington guy. look at the 1187 or 1100 they are great guns that wont let you down.

I've been shooting competitive trap and sporting clays for 25 years, most of them with a Beretta. Having been around and seen some things, I can assure you that that 1100's and 11-87s will let you down, especially when you shoot the quantity of shells that a serious clay shooter shoots. For your average hunter that may shoot 100 to 200 shells a year, the Remington would be fine. Of course for the price difference, (very little) why not get the better gun?

If you go after one of the older beretta's make sure it's a 2 3/4 if you want to use it for doves.. I bought a 3" super light A302 last week but it doesn't like the dove loads much..

Get the gas ports under the barrel opened up slightly by a competent gunsmith.

if you clean your gun after use it wont matter. ive put well over 1,000 rounds shooting trap threw my dads 1187 12ga before cleaning it and it wasnt jamming before i cleaned it. my current 1187 ive only shot about 200 rounds threw it but have yet to do a complete dissassembly and its going strong. but you are right if buying new youd be ahead to buy the beretta but if buying used go remington for price. i got my 1187 premier from a pawnshop for 250 less than a year ago
