209 Primers

Which in you opionion performs best and burns the cleanest?

I use the Remington Kleanbore. They seems to burn a little cleaner.

I had been using 777 209's until yesterday. I converted my Encore to small rifle primers from www.prbullet.com. The are very clean.

Maybe it was just the batch of Triple7 209's that I got last year, but I had a LOT of dud primers in those two packages.
So many that I went back to the Winchester 209's.
I probably should have contacted them about it, but it made me spittin mad everytime I thought about what 'could have happened' if I had finally gotten on the buck of a lifetime and had that stomach-turning 'click' sound with no 'ka-BOOM!' after it.

I had been using ones my brother buys for reloading but they were very hard to remove from my Triumph. Bought some 777s and they are good-no duds yet either.

I had a bunch of duds with the 777 primers. I will not use them anymore. I use the KleanBore from Remington now.

Just curious. Are those of you that are having problems with the 777 primers shooting T/C encores?

Yes, I shoot an Encore. I do not use the hammer extension. It was just a bad batch of primmers. They were not hot enough to ignite the powder.

Can you explain how?

The type of hammer extensions that slide on and you tighten down so you can easily chocolate chip cookie the hammer if you have a very low scope seem to add too much weight to generate enough force to strike the primer once the trigger is pulled. This happened on numerous occassions with my Encore and several other people that I know had the same issues. One guy at the range said his did the same thing and he took the hammer extension off and hasn't had any misfires since. I took mine off and haven't had any other misfires except for the 777 primers from Winchester.

There is enough space to get your thumb on the trigger to pull it back. It's just not as easy if a scope wasn't there.
