First up for me is a spring (June) black bear hunt in Prince William Sound from my friends boat. We will head out and "camp" on the boat as we glass for bear and fish and drop shrimp pots when we aren't hunting. If the timing is right at least one of us should score a bear. Last time I did this shot a beautiful black bear with a thick spring coat.
Next up is a potential August Dall sheep hunt. My son has wanted to go dall sheep hunting as long as I can remember. I been fortunate enough to kill two in my life and hopefully next year he can manage some time off work and we can schedule a hunt together. Alaska's sheep population is down but there are still some legal rams out there. I'll turn 73 soon and the hunt won't be easy. Been hitting the treadmill a few days a week and the weights twice a week. Goal is to be ready by August. Packing a full backpack on a 7-10 day mountain hunt isn't easy for a young person, let alone someone my age. In the last year have dropped 60 pounds and put on about 5 pounds of muscle. The goal is for him to shoot a ram. Could care less if I pulled the trigger on one again. Any legal ram is a trophy to be proud of.
September brings moose season and the wife has never killed a moose. So we are planning a ATV hunt to see if we can find her one. Grizzly and wolf numbers are way up and moose numbers are down so this hunt will be "iffy" as well. But we have to try.
If we don't get a moose we are headed back to Kodiak for a blacktail hunt in November. This year the population of deer on the islands is very high. Last years winter was mild and the survival rate was high. If the same thing happens this winter the numbers will be even better next year. We usually fly to our destination and live in a tent for a week or so while we hunt.
Been looking for a used snowmobile to purchase. If I find one the plan is to spend some time looking for wolves and grizzlies in the spring. The grizzly population is getting out of hand is some game managements. When we lived here before most areas had a rule you could kill one grizzly every 4 years. Now some of these areas a residents can kill 2 a year.
These are our plans for 2026. Hope at least some of the hunts end up happening.
How about your?

If @Buzzard Breath ever gets off his lazy butt and plans our next Alaska adventure then I'll be headed back. Something about reindeer hunting , even though I've heard deer on Kodiak are doing better so I wouldn't mind going back after them.

As for my immediate 2026 plans…I've got to start working on that. Maybe MT deer as I should be able to draw. I'll be throwing money away at the usual low odds tags in various states.

With ID changing things, MT lowering NR tags and everything else changing who the heck knows what I can/will do.

I'd somehow missed this thread until I got called out on it. :D

2026 already started out rough. I didn't get signed on to AZ to purchase my deer tag until 5 minutes after they went on sale. They were sold out already. I think I saw that they sold out in 4 minutes. No January bowhunt for me.

The only thing I'm 100% sure about is that in 3 weeks, I'm going to start paying out a ridiculous amount of money in tag and app fees. Then wait until they send me back a portion of each fee for a refund in 3-5 months. There really aren't many tags I want to draw that I can get for-sure. There are none that I'm guaranteed to draw that are due in January, so I'll just hope for a low odds random tag. That also buys me time to figure out a game plan for apps due later in the year.

I'm a Columbian Blacktail short of my deer slam. I've already hunted them in California and had a fun hunt, but would like to chase them in the rainforest next. OTC archery tags are easy to get, but the outfitter prices have skyrocketed the last 5 years so I'm waiting to run across a good cancellation deal.

I did get a bunch of offers for last minute cancellation hunts for mountain goat, elk and mule deer last year, but couldn't take them up on the offers due to a medical issue that required surgery and an unknown recovery/additional procedures time. In hind-site, I should have gone ahead and done one of them because I was up and running as soon as my lifting restrictions were over 10 days post-op.

I'm going to go ahead and buy a new bow when my DOGE check hits my account and get a couple dozen arrows when my tariff refund gets there. I've also started back at the gym 4-5 days a week. I'm definitely going to hunt something next year, just don't know what, yet.

I'll be back out in Fairbanks, Alaska for a few weeks to fish late summer early fall @Snowwolfe I'll definitely holler at you this go around about some fishing. Headed back to Banff, Canada for a couple weeks so I'll be fishing and camping up there in June. Fingers crossed be back in South Dakota waterfowl hunting October. Other than that, a few trips out west to hike and fish

Put in for archery elk in New Mexico and Utah. Really hoping I draw in Utah this year with 10 points. Will be going regardless on an any bull tag if the draws fall through. Also put a deposit in for Caribou in Alaska for 2027. Haven't told the wife about that one yet, but I feel like my "40th" year plans will be better than a car or a motorcycle or something haha!

Points for me. Been busy but got my reminder on the table. Hope I didn't lose what I built up because I didn't buy last year (went through the big D and don't mean Dallas), personal issue in August, back injections in September, back surgery in October, cleared for work at the end of December. 2025 was a lovely year🤣. May just try to pull off something crazy. Have the cash and I don't think the blonde haired bear can siphon anymore off. TBD. Excited about week after next. I'm on call this upcoming weekend but the following wed-Saturday is game on for turkeys at the farm.
