Congrats to those who have harvested.
I thought the warm weather opening weekend was the cause for not seeing deer while hunting. 2nd weekend, went to my Aunts in Giles Co and hunted Thursday thru Saturday (yesterday), both morning and evenings (2.5 days) and only saw 4 does - last year I saw nearly 20/day and 8 difference bucks for the same 2.5 day period. Also talked to a another landowner about 5 miles away, he was extremely disappointed in the number of deer/bucks he's found dead this fall..
Looked up the stats today for week 1 of the 2017 ML season so far - statewide= 19,238 deer harvested.
2016- 29,698 for the same week 1 period.
Reduction of 35%.

Lol, always the biologists cop out.... the 'weather'. Deer were moving the same when I was up there during ML this year. Heck, about 6 or 7 years ago it was in the low 80s a couple days and kill was one of the highest ever for ML.

I think it was a combo of people being more picky about what they shoot combined with a slightly lower overall population. My population has been on a slow decline since 2011 or so.

Lol MZ was down disproportionately compared to bow and gun.

I, too, saw multiple deer on opening morning of MZ.

What's unique is that although I hunted a public land spot (for the first time I can remember on MZ opener) I saw no other hunters anywhere in the area other than the one I rode with. If memory serves me correctly I heard no more than a couple of shots all morning.

The weather may not have played a factor in how many deer you saw, but it DID play a role in how many hunted and how many were killed.

I think this summarizes the entire season with weather more significantly affecting MZ harvest

But . . . . . Gun Season Segment Only . . . :
2016 = 101,722
2017 = 98,125
Down Only 3.5%

IMO, this is more a reflection of less hunting than less deer,
although there are less deer in many Unit L areas compared to a few years ago.
There are also less deer in many East TN areas,
and yes, the kill being less may also be a reflection of more hunters being pickier, on both antlered and antlerless deer.
