2014-15 Thunderhead & Muzzy Kill Thread

Don't just post your kills, be sure to also mention how many times the American-made broadhead went through a deer before bending or breaking. :D mine have killed 2 or 3 deer before being lost or occasionally bent on hitting a leg bone.

Lol please lets not do this for every broadhead!!

I killed one with a Muzzy two years ago. It chipped the blade, but I wouldn't expect it not to considering it stuck 3 inches in the ground behind her :)

I have sone Swhackers now. I shot one into my blob type target multiple times yesterday and it held up great.. Got dull of course but no real problems.

I've killed every Rage I have ever shot at a deer. Those things are expensive (and aggravating) to replace. The 11 pt buck I killed in Ohio last yr, the Rage never opened.

I still have the heart with a "closed Rage" hole through it, frozen in my freezer.

This yr I am NOT shooting Rage.

Thunder Damage:












Only 2 of those deer - the broken leg deer, and the spotted fawn (also broken leg) - damaged the Thunderhead, and the blade was only slightly bent.

Bring on the 2014 season. Hope you kill the crap out of them with the Rage and I will kill the crap out of them with Thunderheads :grin:

I shoot ONLY Thunderhead as well. I won't use the "same" broadhead/blades for more than one kill. I always change out my blades for newer sharp ones after It has killed a deer.
Will that count?

Back in the late '90s, I killed seven animals with the same Thunderhead. Bear-2caribou-elk-three deer. Also same aluminum arrow. I now shoot NAP Killzone which are also American made.

You can kill a deer or any animal with a dull field point. Would you consider that a killing piece of equipment. Of course, you can say about a hammer, too.

But it would be great advertising. "Even when it doesn't work-it works."

a field point could kill a mature Ohio buck, but would you really want to shoot a broadhead that didn't open?

Shot five deer with the same thunderhead and arrow,and is still number one inmy quiver.I just sharpen the blades after every kill.A rage would probably break while paper tuning.JUNK!!!

I use Muzzy MX-3's. They do a number on whitetail. On the way back from Colorado now from an elk hunt. Killed a good 5X5 but he had to be shot twice. I also double lunged a huge 6X6 and never found him. Last year, I had a great shot on a good 5X5 and never recovered him. All with a muzzy MX-3. The blades were all bent up. I'll be researching for a more durable broad head for elk hunting from here on out and continue using all my muzzy's for whitetail.

that sucks. I don't know how Thunderheads compare to Muzzy MX3 but I know mine are pretty tough, they will break the front leg of a young deer clean in two and only suffer a minor bend in one blade. That's happened to me twice.

here are a few. there are more, but i don't have pictures of them all. I have shot more than one deer with the same broad head a few times. The only broad heads I have ever shot are Thunder Head 100's

The one I mailed to Africa to feed the children... that is the exit hole.

I think it depends on arrow speed and fletching, how good your form is, and how well the bow is tuned. My bow isn't a super fast one, but it's a lot faster than my old Jennings Buckmaster that I successfully used Muzzy's with...This year I'm gonna give the Grim Reapers a try. So two words for ya: forgiveness and confidence. Shoot what works for you.

Everything Tbone said. Everything is a factor. Don't ever use the practice blades that come in a pack of broad heads. Use one of the actual broad heads and sacrifice dulling the blades on that one. Shoot it atleast 10 times at different distances to assure consistency. You can buy replacement blades for most heads. The muzzy's shoot just like my field points.

Good luck with the grim reapers Tbone. I used to use those. Shot 3 deer with them and none of them ran more than 20 yards. I switched to fixed blades several years ago, but never had any problems out of the grim reapers.
