Had a good season, although not as good as last year. Would be hard to top last year though. It was my 3rd year deer hunting solo (4th year total)

Deer sightings were on and off throughout the entire season. Sometimes good, sometimes great, sometimes nothing at all. I will have more info on that when I get done compiling all the data from my hunting log...

I hunted a mature 9pt that I encountered up close and personal last year as an 8 pt. He showed for the trail cam occasionally, and I saw him from the road on another property I can't hunt. Never saw him or any decent buck on my side of the line while hunting. I passed several yearling bucks this year but I think one of my main downfalls was shooting too many does during the rut instead of waiting for a good buck. I also lost one deer with the bow in November on private land. She crossed the creek twice before I completely lost her. Goal for next year, as always, is to not lose any deer. Worst thing I can do to the deer...

On to the kills.... here is what I killed this year.

9 deer - 7 does (0.5-3.5 y/o), 1 button, 1 buck (1.5yo)
5 turkeys - 2 hens, 2 jake poults, 1 gobbler

-

September 30 - bow - stillhunting private land:

October 12 - shotgun - public land:

October 14 - bow - public land:

October 24 - shotgun - public land, double with Rockhound:

November 1 - bow - private land:

November 8 - rifle - public land quota:

November 15 - bow - public land:

November 29 - rifle - public land:

December 2 - bow - backyard:

December 12 - rifle - public land:

That concludes this season.

Plan to do some scouting soon and some prep work between now and bow opener. And certain areas where I hope to kill a good buck will be off limits till the rut picks up.

Now for some small game and waterfowl, just cleaned the shotgun...

I'm not afraid of a little work, maybe next time we hunt during bow season or rut

Thanks PJ - how many did you end up with? Last I saw was that good buck you killed.

Ended up with 4. No more bucks though. Didn't spend much time in the woods this year with the baby and all. Looking forward to next season though.
