Just got the word from the outfitter that we locked in our dates for next year. Deposit check cleared the bank and every thing is looking like it's a "go." Still not looking forward to a 1400 mile drive though.

Who did you go with? Website? Have you used them before? I've just started doing some research for a trip myself. My wife has been suggesting to me that we go to Maine for a vacation. I think it would be a good way to slip in a hunting trip. Her idea of a vacation is getting a cabin on a lake and relaxing for a week. My idea of a vacation is getting up earlier than I do normally, staying up later than normal, and be going all day long. A place where I can fish and hunt while she relaxes is perfect.
 
Just got back from Maine last week. I only went as far north as the Portland Cabelas, beautiful country. Good Luck on your hunt.

We booked with Josh Rhodes of Eastern Ridge Adventures. www.blackbearhunting.us I've been throwing the idea around for a while and a buddy and I were discussing guided hunts and stuff and out of the blue he asked if I had ever considered going on a bear hunt. He had been researching it for a while, sent me the info on a couple of different outfits. I made a few calls and sent out a few e-mails and we put our stuff together and decided on the above outfitter. Funny thing was since discussing it we've had three other people go in on it with us which is why we're looking at driving instead of flying. We preliminary priced airfaire to Maine and depending on the number of connecting flights involved we were looking at about 600 dollars for tickets and that price could easily go up with excess baggage fees for gun, bow cases and coolers. Not to mention none of us were thrilled with the idea of flying into Detroit or Philadelphia with firearms. We've got five now, one more would make six, which would allow us to take two vehicles and split the drive between the three people in each vehicle. That makes a 24 hour drive very doable.

Big decision is what to take?
Bow, gun, Muzzleloader, Pistol, or Slug Gun??
 
I went to Maine on a black bear hunt back around Sept. 2008. Hunted in Aroostook County. Beautiful country up there, and was my first guided hunt. I went on a archery hunt instead of the gun hunt and had my oppurtunity, hit it low on the last night of the hunt. We searched and searched but couldnt find. It was a great experience. The only disappointment I had about the trip was the size of the bear compared to here in East Tn. There was alot of bears killed during my hunt and only one that weighed over 250lbs. Dont know everyone might have just been trigger happy I guess. Lol. Anyways hope you kill a big white chested bruin up there! (Very common in the ones that was killed when I was there)Good Luck
 
I hunted in New Brunswick in 1989. Two of us drove. Made a two day drive out of it. The drive threw Maine was beautiful. If I was going back I would drive again just for the scenery. Hartford Conn. was horrible during rush hour.
