2 Trail Cam bucks with 1 side gone on same night

I have never caught this on my cameras before this time of year, thought it was interesting. Same night (2 nights ago), 2 different bucks 3 hours apart and both missing a side. There is a scrape under the big bush there straight in front.

Correct, unless they have health problems. While a few bucks will just naturally shed early, if many in a given area are doing so there are likely health problems involved.

I've probably seen more bucks with broken racks this year than the number of bucks many huntes see in a season. Unless something is drastically wrong Tn deer don't shed this early. The last wad of bucks I saw (10 together) had 4 of the bucks with only 1 side and another had broken tines. Just prior to that I saw another pretty good buck with only 1 side. Broken antlers have saved me from dropping several good bucks.

If your deer are shedding before the end of December then your herd has nutritional and stress problems. As far as I know there are no Tn deer herds with the genetic trait of shedding this early in the year but I've been wrong before.

here is the 2nd totally shed buck i have heard killed today. the other was checked in at Belfast mkt this morning- Marshall County

I found a fresh shed last year in middle Tn. the week after Christmas. Still had a spot of blood and some hair on it. I would not rule out shed. Also last year a co-worker took his nephew on the last weekend of season. The buck he shot had both sides but, as they drug him out one side popped off with ease he said. Anything is possible I guess but we really dont get the stressful weather conditions as the North or midwest does. That stress has alot to do with why they pop them off so early. Ill be honest, after last years odd find I was out hunting this morning and on my way out I took the deer trail out of the woods just for the reason of.....Maybe I will find a shed.....

There are any # of reasons individual deer will shed early, but I guarantee every year there will be plenty of deer from every state that shed before the new year.

Hunting in fayette this morning and just had a spike 30 yds out..had one 5" side and nothing on the other. The first 2 bucks i posted were in tipton county
