Was up at 0600 but couldnt make my mind up if I wanted to go for a sit or not.....at 07:30 I said might as well, had a friend who is handicapped that 1 deer ground in burger gets him by for the year so that was primarily my motive and the fact I could use another if it worked out.
Was in the stand by 0800 after being lazy and drove the atv within 75 yards of the stand parked in a thicket! Lol
Around 9ish I had a group of 13-14 easing through the pine thicket with 5 big doe. They eased out into the lane that seperates the pines and hardwoods with last in line being the victim, high shoulder at 80-90 yards with the 7mm08 and she never knew what hit her, no tracking involved. I tried for a second but they all hit the pines. I sat still and started seeing more movement within 20 minutes off on the nieghbor working my way, was watching them when I had 6 more slipping through the pines taking thier time. They ended up darn near taking the same path as the earlier group with the lead doe being a mature doe. She stopped eyeing the first doe I shot in the wide open.....bad mistake! She never took another step.
Dropped both off at K&J Processor with my tag numbers being 12,478 and 12,479!! Thats a lot of deer processed for the season!!
I gutted both in the pasture next to the creek around 10:30, went back in at 1:30 to set some foot hold traps and both gut piles completely gone by black vultures.....those things are terrible around the West side!
