2 buck Limit sucks!

I thought i'd like but I HATE IT! I go hunting to just watch deer now, the next buck limits me out. I have already let deer go that I wouldn't hesitate to shoot in the past. It's forcing me wait til the rut ,in December, to try to kill a deer better than 120.

I have hunted in Ohio which is a one buck state and Illinois which is a 2 buck state. Many years in Ohio i did not even shoot one buck. My personal opinion is that a doe tastes better and if the buck is not big enough for the wall he gets to live for another day.

Lol....speaking of bucks, I was just browsing Oklahoma's version of Tennessee's Hunting Guide because I'm thinking about doing some hunting there this season. Oklahoma has a 2-buck limit. Oklahoma's hunting guide has little tips printed in the bottom left corner of some of the pages. They call these tips "In A Nutshell". On page 15, which covers general hunting regulations, the "In A Nutshell" tip says this:

"Oklahoma's 250,000 deer hunters play a major role in conservation of the resource. When a hunter chooses to harvest an older buck, he helps improve the age structure of the state's deer herd. Hunter's in the know let young bucks grow!"

Can you imagine TWRA printing that in Tennessee's hunting guide? I can only imagine the feedback they would get. :lol:

Just goes to show that the politics of game management can differ significantly from one state to another.

Nebraska says something similar. They also list each district and the number of mature (3. 1/2) bucks killed in each.

No that's a flawed system IMO...to many young deer with great antler genetics being taken out before they reach maturity and to many mature deer with poor antler genetics being passed on

I have mixed feelings about it. I had the opportunity to tag out yesterday on a nice 4.5 yr old buck, but I killed one bigger last weekend and I couldn't handle being tagged out on Nov 14th knowing I have bigger bucks. At the same time I keep thinking I'm a fool for not shooting him... Lol

I killed one opening weekend of muzzleloader and tried like heck to bust another one this weekend. If I was tagged out before rifle even opened my wife would love it. I'd still go and take my son and maybe try for a doe or two for jerky but it might be a good problem to have to be tagged out early. I go some years with no bucks so 3 to 2 isn't gonna hurt me.

Holler Hunter...that would be hard to pass.

And that my friends is exactly why the majority was against it--there was no biological need in the change and all it did was limit opportunity.

It was! I don't think I've been so confused while hunting before. I heard him coming I turned to look a voice says shooter! Cocked the hammer put the crosshairs on him at about 50yds,finger on the trigger tightened and then this dang voice says this is your last hunt for a big buck for 10 more months.... The finger loosens, the eye comes out the scope and he gets to about 30yds broadside. Voice says you big dummy shoot! Process above repeats about 5 times and then he finally went over the ridge.... Still confused... Lol
