So I killed my first banded duck since I started duck hunting 3 years ago. I report it to find out it is a one year old (Mallard Hen) from Ontario, Canada. I understand there are millions of birds but is it more common for them to be yearlings? Just curious. Shot my first Redhead today as well, ducks flying pretty good, the blind missed several opportunities but still had a great day!

Something I've never done, I laid my gun down to retrieve a duck one time and a duck came in and my buddy killed it and it turned out to be banded

I have had something along those lines happen. Was hunting with 2 buddies couple years back and we were a few ducks from our limits when one of there guns break. I killed the next 2 that came in so I gave my buddy my gun so he could kill the last one. Greenhead falls in he kills it walks out there and it had a band.

Congrats Ive been duck hunting 4 yrs and havent even seen a band killed yet. Seems its always the blind beside us that gets one.
