I moved my casting operation indoors today, the weather has not be cooperating very well outside

this was the first time that I has cast in an controlled environment, the results were great

180 boolits all within 0.75 grains of each other, I had about 10 rejects getting mold up to temp, I also started casting at 750 degrees instead of 700

this learning curve is getting smaller and smaller

Have you become addicted yet or ready to throw it all away?

I have found that casting for the "high volume" calibers is pretty relaxing for me.
 
I am not addicted yet, hope I do not get that way, just trying to get enough boolits cast while the weather is bad outside

I still do not have the process down perfect yet, boolits are sometimes wanting to hang pretty tight in the left side of mold

no, I have not pulled the trigger on that item yet, been waiting for Buffalo Arms to get some more .40-65 brass in so I can combine the order

still have not purchased the spotting scope yet

just been casting boolits till the weather breaks in this area
 
You'll always have trouble casting those big bullets in cool conditions. Dang mould will just cool off way too fast between pours.
Have you tried forming your 40-65 brass out of 45-70 hulls? That's what I always did with good results. The only drawback will be the headstamp will say 45-70. Usually much cheaper too.

I am waiting on Buffalo Arms to get some more of the Starline .40-65 in, they are $126.00 per 250, anything else is twice that at the places that I have check

I have some dudes in Mississippi saving me their 45-70
