Have Qs.

1. Which model Savage or other brand do you have?

2. What ammo do you use?

3. Did a scope come with your rifle? If so, how do you like it?

4. For target practice, would you use it up to 200 yds?

THANKS Ray

I bought a NEF when the caliber first came out, single shot bull barrel, no scope. When you test ammo I would shoot at least a box of each ammo through the gun before saying if it likes it or not, pull a patch through between the different types to make it a fair test. I have never had a rimfire not change poi when changing brands/weight. When I say pull a patch through that's what I mean, you can wad a cheap rod up by pushing a patch through, even pulling a bore snake through without oil/cleaner can make you wonder if it's going to break  . I wanted a Marlin as I am a fan but it really took awhile to get them out there and I was in a rush to burn some powder, 200y is very doable when the wind is low, have shot 3 shot groups of less than 1" with a 3-9-40 scope, for distance a better scope would be better.

I now have a Swift 6-18-50 on it but been a long time since I shot it or at a range, haven't shot it at the range with the Swift, buying a range permit July 1 to change that.

My go-to varmint rifle is a Savage A17. I have had it for several years and have put dozens of bricks of ammo through it. I absolutely love it and have no intention of ever getting rid of it. I have killed rock chucks with one shot at 150+ yards and sage rats out to 200 with it several times. It didn't come with a scope but a Nikon lives on it.

I also have a cool Marlin 917 that is an absolute tack driver. That didn't come with a scope either but it has a Japanese Tasco World Class 4-16 with AO on it. Great combo!!

I have a Remington 597 22 Magnum with a laminate stock and I bought a take-off 17HMR barrel for it that I haven't had time to install yet. That will likely be a tack driver too, given my experience with another 597 22 Mag.
