.17 HMR mach 2

Ok so I don't know much about it and to me it don't make no sense but here is how I understand it.

The mach 2 you would think would be badder but it looks like it is only a 22 LR necked down.

What are the pros / cons of the mach 2 ?
Anyone even have one?

Reason I ask is I can get one in a stainless / laminated stock for a real good price.
Just thinking and wondering.

It is accurate but will still tear up game. I know a guy who climes to have killed a turkey with one.

I know the hmr is way to much for squirrel but will put a coyote down. I have been lookung for a mach 2 to squirrel hunt with, but can not find one anywhere so if you can get your hands on one I would snatch it up quick.

Ammo is cheaper than the hmr. I've been wanting to convert my 10/22 but ain't got around to it yet.

I don't want to sound like Johnny Raincloud here, but it really boils down to what you like. IMO the hmr and Mach2 are passing fads. They are a both necked down versions of their parent cartridges 22 mag and 22 lr respectively. Although both fit a very narrow niche of shooters, they were marketed to death and thus fairly popular 4-5 years ago. I prefer my 22 mag to a 17 hmr any day. I have/had both. Anything hunting wise that a .17 hmr can do, the long trusted 22 mag can do better. It is much the same story for the Mach2. If you like the gun though, buy it!! I can't turn down the temptation of a well priced firearm regardless of need myself. (Common among gun nuts) Long term ammo availability and ammo cost would be my only concern.

Yep, from what I have found in regards to the 17 hmr people either love them or hate them.

I have never shot a more accurate rifle than my .17 hmr.

Overkill for small game but I love shooting it.

I have a ruger 10/22 I converted with the volquartnen bolt and carbon fiber wraped barrel, with a timney trigger. It weighs less than 5.5 pounds. It is a killing machine from 5 to 100 yards easy. Everyone that shoots it wants to buy it until they hear the price. Awesome small varmint round.

had a 17 mach2 in contender very scary accurate at a 100 yrds but wind is a killer on them small bullets .to much for tree rats unless u head shoot them just imo

Ruger if you buy it I've got a 100 rounds laying around that I somehow wound up with you can have if your ever down my way. They are Remington ballistic tips.

Couldn't give me 2- 22 mags for my 17 hmr but unfortunately a buddy had more money than sense and i got to buy another one
I have been wanting a mach 2 since they came out. I vote yes!

Ruger - I own two .17 Mach 2 riles. One is a Browning BL-17 lever action and the other is a Winchester 1885 Low Wall single shot. Both are absolute tack drivers and I shoot them with iron sights. In my opinion it is a cartridge with no comparison to .22LR and because of its accuracy head shots on small game are a high confidence proposition. It s not a .22Mag and it is not a .17HMR but is is a sweet little rimfire with a niche all its own. If I could find a CZ American in .17 HM2 I'm all over it.

Right now however ammo is an issue. Just like .22LR the .17 HM2 is in short supply. Until the .22LR stock recovers, the ammo makers will not be shifting .22LR cases for .17HM2 production. Thankfully I stockpiled around 5K rounds before the Newtown CT events and subsequent chaos.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another for a good price. Ammo will come back to the shelves or mail order sources.

PS - One other piece of advise. If the rifle you are looking at is semi-auto in my opinion head the other way. Too many bad Ruger 10/22 conversions out there. Check www.rimfirecentral.com.

I am 99.99% sure it is an M77.
I know it is a bolt action and I know it is a Ruger.
If isn't an M77, being a bolt action I don't know what it could be.

I am getting it in about 2 more weeks.
I got some money earmarked for something else, and then after that it is mine.

Think $150 for an unfired rifle is too much ? :D hee hee
