Well I went to the Moose range on Saturday with a good collection of Sabot slugs from Hornady, Breneke, and Winchester. Wow even with the shotgun in the cradle it had quite a punch. So much that the 1100 trigger decided to not reset after 9 shots. First time that ever happened. It was my skeet gun for years and never failed me. All in all I think the smokepole will be easier to shoot. Probably more accurate too, the best I got out of the sabot slugs was 2" at 50 yds, That was the Hornady 300 SSTs. I had expected the rifled barrel to do better than that frankly. I bought a TC Strike 2 years ago and have never gotten it dirty so I will shelve the Rem for repairs and tune a load up for the Strike. I will start with 90grs of BH209 and a 250 sabot load, then work up. From what I have heard the 300gr sabot loads seem to shoot the best from the Strikes short 24" barrel.

My Dad started me off with his old A5 Browning with slugs. Good gosh that recoil operated hammer was harsh.
I pulled 2 Oak Ridge shotgun doe hunts, Nov and Dec. On my very first deer hunt back in 1970, I was a teenager, I carried a brand new Ithaca model 66 Slug gun, it was a single shot with rifle sights. I thought it would be fun to try again with the 1100. Naw, I guess not. It was apparent that the recoil was pretty hard, but I didn't expect to break the 1100. The smokepole pushes more than smacks.
