Had a great hunt this morning on the rim of the Plateau. While I have killed some nice bucks, a nice bow buck has always eluded me. This morning I had deer all around me eating white oaks. I ended up with 5 does and a 6 point on me. I had heard grunting and thrashing around earlier. Not long after all of those deer came in, I spotted this guy working up a point right to the other deer. I was on the edge of a thicket but in very open and steep woods so I could see it coming for 150 yards or so. Plenty of time to get nervous and for my leg to literally jump around some. I calmed down and He eventually worked his way in and I shot him at 35. I was a bit worried about the shot but knew it was fatal. I don't get buck fever much anymore but with this I literally was shaking all over after the shot. I got extremely worried when 5 dogs came through chasing a coyote and ran right down the trail the buck ran on not 15 minutes later. I wanted to wait 4 hours but ended up waiting 2 hours because I was concerned the dogs were eating the deer since I heard them stop barking. Turns out, I got both lungs and he didn't make it far. The dogs didn't bother it thankfully. Very happy with this buck.
