I zero'd my 30 06 at 100 yards to utilize the drop marks on my Nikon BDC reticle. When using a regular multi plex reticle I sight in 1.5" high at 100 for minute of whitetail out to 300 yards.

Anyone sight in to be dead on at 100 with a 30 06?

I do and then dial dope if needed.

I used to sight in 1.5 - 2" high at a hundred and still can't decide which method I like better.

I think TNRifleman has it right.

All depends upon your location.

Some places I can have a 300 yard shot in the woods and if I turn around, 50 yards is the most common.

I have memorized the ballistics on my 06 (150 gr at 3000 FPS). Ever see a rifle with a 3x5 card taped to the stock? Still a good idea

I sight in zero at 100 yds with 150 gr NAB's, but that's about the farthest shot I'd expect to take where I'm hunting. That said, I took a 130 yd shot last year and still aimed dead on and dropped the buck in it's tracks.

Thanks. I believe most .30 06' loads are good to about 250 yards with a 100 yard zero.

MPBR for the 150 gr BT bullets is about 287yds, being 2.6" high at 100 yds, and 2" high at 200 yds, and 3" high at 145 yds, according to the chart I'm looking at.

MPBR for the 165 gr BT bullet is 273 yds, being 2.7" high at 100yds, 1.7" at 200yds, and 3" high at 135 yds.

If the Nikon drop data for the 06' 165 is correct, verified at the range also ( recommended), I'd roll with it with the 100 yrd zero with bdc reticle.
If using a duplex reticle. I'd sight in with at least a 200 yrd zero.

That's what I do. Have done that for a long time. I used to didn't think much about it, till I watched a hunting video and they talked about flatter shooting cartridges. They said most of them if sighted 3" high at 100 would be on a deer vitals at 300 or more.
