10-22 accuracy..??

I have tried 2 times to zero one of these..
Fifteen years ago the first one was a stainless barreled laminate stock.. beautiful gun.. you would be lucky to hit a softball at 40 yards with it.. it went to the gun show...
Now, I'm trying a blued barreled one.. plastic stock.. at 40 yards I can hit a tennis ball 8 outta 10 times.. so the accuracy has apparently improved in the past 15 years but still sucks a big one.... tried 3 different types of ammo from cci sub sonic to federal target .. any ideas?? Thanks!

I have owned a couple new ones and a bunch of used ones through trades and only one was very accurate. It was a stainless, long barrel without the barrel band with a wood stock that I believe only Wal-Mart carried. It would shoot about a quarter size 10 shot group at 50 yards with CCI Stingers. The rest of them was pretty lousy in the accuracy department without a bunch of upgrades. In my experience it's cheaper to buy a real nice .22 than to shell out the cash for upgrades to make a 10-22 accurate.

Try CCI mini-mags, Blazers, and a few others. Most .22s tend to be picky on ammo, and 10/22s tend to epitomize this rule

Mine will shoot out dime holes at 40 yds all day long with Eley ammo.

They dont care about the factory accuracy on the lower end guns,they make a lot of after market parts to make them shoot decent,I have a 10/22T that shoots great but all my other rim fires are marlins and they shoot great with most cheap factory ammo.I dont want to pay $5 or more for ammo to try to get a gun to shoot decent ,make sure all the screws holding the action to the stock are tight and good luck

Years ago I picked up a 10/22 and it wouldn't shoot worth a flip. The trigger was pitiful. I junked the stock, barrel and the factory Installed a Green Mountain Barrel bull barrel, Timney trigger and a new stock. I could shoot 5 shot dime sized groups at 50 yards. That rifle was wicked accurate with CCI Mini-Mags.

I always had better luck with the accuracy of Marlin 60s in an unmodified configuration

10/22 and accurate don't belong in the same sentence, unless you are willing to purchase aftermarket parts.

I guess I've been lucky with mine. I had a Timney trigger installed and it'll shoot most of the cheap stuff pretty well to fifty yards or so.

Lilja makes a 10/22 barrel that seems to be fairly accurate.

Heard of one coming from the factory that wouldn't shoot a barn door sized group. Turned out the barrel was never crowned. Sent it back and they replaced the barrel and it shoots good groups now, open sights anyway. :)

I have one with the factory bull barrel and it's very picky but it does like the CCI Stingers. I almost sold it cause of that very reason, really wanting a CZ 452!

I guess I am very lucky all of mine are very accurate.
With that said none of them like stingers.

Mine the factory trigger was the worst trigger I ever used, except for an original Springfield 45-70 Trapdoor built in the 1800's.

Replace the trigger with a relatively cheap aftermarket (it wasn't Timney, but Timneys are very nice) and the groups shrunk in half. It was fun installing the new trigger, too. I don't use the gun for groups, but the little 22 swinging plates the size of squirrel heads are dead 80-90% of the time offhand at hunting range.
