an f-class record was set with a 284 win. and the cool thing his sd was so low that he had almost zero vertical on the record target.
 
I`m using a BAT B that I`ve had for a few years, and it will be a switch barrel. I`m going to see how well I like the round, and if it works as well as I hope I`m getting another barrel very soon. I want to shoot IBS 1000 yds with it. The 6mm`s will win on a calm day, but seems like it ain`t always calm. :blush:

If I`d wanted to be a show off, I`d have went with a 338.
I`m a 7mm guy to the bone, cant help it.

Pointing the Hybrids with the Whidden die gains 7-8% puts me .720ish BC going to use HBN for an attainable 2950 fps

Its been a long time since I was as anxious to complete a project. Sierra introduced a new 180 Matchking, the 162 A-Max with .625 BC is a great inexpensive option.

WTM, I will keep an update as soon as I can get it back from the smith. The reamer was delivered to me with a .276 bushing, and its a bit snug it the .276 Brux bore. I ordered a .2758" yesterday, and it is 2 to 3 day mail from OR.
 
Neat project!

Forgive my ignorance, but what would be the advantage over a long-throated 7 WSM? Is the BAT a medium lenght action or a short?

barrel life, effeciency, less recoil to name a few.
 
Pedigree, the 284 case holds the record.

I used my 7WSM reamer as a base for the regrind to 284 Shehane.

Point blank benchrest shooters could use a 243 Winchester, but the 6PPC does work better.

I realized long ago......it ain`t a race.

would appreciate it. ive had straight 284 target rifle on the drawing board for a year now but might just change to an improved version. that is when funds become available lol.

A 7wsm will give a bit more velocity and a FAR reduced barrel life.

I'm about 3 weeks out from finishing a build on a similar concept.

I'm going with a 7mm Winchester magnum.

Yeah I say that and 99% of people just say "oh" a few select others say "there's no such thing." I laugh and explain it's a 7mm--300WM.

I'm going to try 7mm 189grn Cauterucio VLD's BC.75
I can get some 200 grainers that have bc of .92(!!!) but they are 80cents a piece and take the HP of a magnum to push. I got the HP, just not the wallet.
The 7-300 nears 7mmSTW velocity with far greater barrel life, some better than a WSM or so is reported to me.

This was a win win for me. I wanted to change my 300WM 1000 f-class rifle to 7mm something. Going to the 7-300 let's me still use my good 300WM brass, my 300wm micrometer dies (with smaller neck bushing) and I don't have to change shell holders or modify the bolt face of the action.

Better ballistics, less recoil for little money. Win Win win.

You better run any Amax bullets you get on Juenke ICC device for testing. I have had Loads worked up with amax bullets that would hold SUB 1" @ 400 yards then get a new batch of Amax bullets and them shoot like buckshot out of a scatter gun.

Come to find out with the ICC, amax bullets have a tendancy to be out of balance lot to lot. Beware.

I have been shooting a 7mm Win Mag for several years myself, it is an excellent round. I have a fluted #5 Krieger on a Blueprinted 700 and is my go to beanfield/antelope rifle. I sold my 7mm/338RUM to a buddy, it was a Sendero taper Krieger on a blueprinted action. The latest results for the new F-Class open record, broken this past week was a shooter Biggs shooting a 7mm Saum with 180 Berger Hybrids. I have a 7mm Saum reamer that I may use at some point, if and when I get a magnum bolt body for my model B. Its all fun, and there is no magic chambering, altho I do feel some are better than others.

Thanks for the tip on the A-Max`s, I have heard rave reviews from some shooters, and not much negative. That didn`t make much sence for the price you can get the Hornady for.
