Went to my cousin's place yesterday and got to watch him shoot one at 10:30. As we were headed out I seen a gobbler and jake in another field but I knew they seen us too but they didn't really spook. I could tell it was a good sized bird and was hoping to get on it today.

This morning we setup expecting it to be on the neighboring property where they all roosted yesterday. As it started getting daylight wasn't anything gobbling but they didn't gobble much yesterday on the roost so wasn't out of the ordinary. All the sudden he blew our ear drums out at 30 yards. I said oh crap we setup way too close but wasn't expecting one to be right there.

He flew down first followed by a Jake. He flew down at 80 yards and thought he was locked on the decoys but wouldn't commit. He'd walk further away and turn and strut and gobble. Finally he broke our way walking left to right and thought here we go. Instead he skirted at about 100 yards and was fixing to walk through a small fencerow to another field. I cut down hard on the slate and that stopped him and he turned and stood there and gobbled for about 5 mins. Finally he had enough and could tell he was locked in. I let him get to about 30 yards and shot him.

11 1/4" beard and 1" spurs.
