Been hunting pretty hard since the 16th and it's been slow going. Have seen a couple deer here and there, but no shot.
Today started with a small doe and a yearling buck. Never got a shot on the doe, she looked like a fawn, but no momma in sight.
About 6pm the deer have left, and then here comes Elmer Fudd sneaking through the thicket where most of the deer come from. After a few minutes he disappeared. I later determined he had come from a ways across the creek when I heard his truck fire up.
About 15-20 mins later, the fawn comes back, still alone, from the opposite direction. She got to about 15-20 yards and got the Thunderhead.
I gave it 5 minutes and was gonna tie up my bow and lower it down. Here come footsteps...a doe appears out of nowhere. She got the Thunderhead too.
Both deer ran the same trail, I thought I heard the first one crash in the creek.
After losing blood for a while, I stumbled on the first deer, not in the creek but in the thicket. Then found the second doe a few minutes later. Both were lung/liver shots, the big doe was double lung and liver.
I'm posting this now as I check them in, all the meat is in plastic bags in my big cooler, just gotta grab some ice and head home.
