I only have a acre that I can put in a foodplot. I want to plant it in the spring. What is the best to plant as far as nutrition and attraction? With only an acre Im affraid that it will never develop due to the amount of pressure on it.

BSK, What are the differences in Durana Clover from Ladino? How much protein does Durana Clover carry? Is it good to mix in alfalfa with the clover or is better to just do one. Thanks for your help!!

I would use beans and then follow with clover before the leaves fall off. Sling a little fertilizer and then clover...not at the same time. The leaves will cover the clover and a ittle rain is all that is needed. works well. The beans won't last but the clover will be there and last till death by frost/cold.

Durana is a mid-height clover that does much better in hot summer conditions than the ladino clovers used heavily in Whitetail Institute products. For summer production, Durana outperforms Ladino in sustained growth and utilization. Besides, Whitetail Institute products are SEVERELY overpriced.

I wouldnt plant beans in a 1 acre plot in the spring, deer will wipe em out, unless there are no deer around.

Also, Durana is very dense and out competes weeds and grasses.

I would plant 1/4 acre in durana and 3/4 in eagle seed soybeans. The soybeans gives you more tonnage per acre than clover and the deer will eat the beans in the winter. However, if you have a large deer population they might mow the soybeans down before they have a chance to establish.

When you say overseed with other seed mixture in the fall, do you just throw the seed on top of the clover, or do you have to work the ground? What other seeds are recommended for the fall planting?
