What would be the best weight bullet to start out with?

70g + then higher,mines a 1/9,not sure but most say nothing over 70g,cant find no loaded ammo to find out lol

So is the rule of thumb with twist rates generally "more twist-more bullet weight"? I'm assuming the higher twist rate equals higher spin rate, thus the need for heavier bullet for better stability keeping the bullet together at that higher spin rate, is this a correct assumption?

Not always, some will come apart a lot won't. If this is a AR you will have to single load the heaver bullets 75-80grs because they will not load into a mag.

Thanks for the response. It is an AR rifle that was given to me and noticed it had a 1/7 twist. I have lots of sierra 69's but I will have to look for some heavier bullets.

I really really like the 69 SMK with 25 grs Varget,very very accurate in my 9 twist rifles,,and I bet they would work well in a 7,

I have some 50gr varmint grenades and they call for a 1/9 or faster. They are realtively long for a light bullet. May be worth a try if youwant to mix it up.
