@CATCHDAWG and his mountain stream adventures led me to sneak out today and do some creek crawling of my own. Normally I stick to the big rivers but it was a dang nice change of pace today. Perfect solitude and willing fish makes for a great few hours.

You guys using like a 7ft or 8ft rod? How in the heck are you not getting hung up in the overhanging branches nonstop? Small creek fly fishing is what made me completely quit fly fishing and switch to spinning gear.

Lol, I use a 9' rod as I like the added line control. When I fish the tiny streams I rarely truly cast as I would on big water. It's more flips, bow and arrow casts etc. I shorten my leader so it turns over fast therefore I full cast isn't necessary. Think glorified cane pole fishing with a very expensive overpriced cane pole lol

What Setterman said except I usually use a 8'6". I can flip it, roll it or bow cast it bout anywhere I want and still have the length for a longer cast if need be. I have shorter rods but I'm not very accurate with them and it's harder to get a quick hook set.

I like an 8' on most little creeks in the park, it makes everything easier plus you can "choke up" on the rod above the cork if it really gets tight. There's not much of the regular casting there, like Setterman said, it's got more in common with canepoling than " river runs through it". It's so much fun ,you're hunting as much as fishing sneaking in on those fish, your rod becomes the gun and the fly becomes the bullet.
