Mussels

Fished Old Hickory yesterday and there were dead mussels floating everywhere. Thousands of them. They were not there on Thursday or at least I didn't notice them. Anyone seen this or know why it's happening?

80's references aside, I find the explanation logical, if nothing else.

From what I've heard, there's been very little generating on the TVA dams over the past several weeks because we haven't had any big storms, and electricity demand isn't at summer levels yet. Once overnight lows quit dipping into the 50s that will obviously change.

Theory goes that the meantime, oxygen will be relatively low, and pollutant concentrations high. So good conditions for fish death (and mussel population…atrophy).
