Saturday the weather clowns 🤡 missed the wind totally. Imagine that. I ran to the spot I limited out Thursday and didn't even shut her down. I knew I couldn't fish there. Just too much wind and rough water. So I ran 10 miles to a place that always holds fish and would be somewhat sheltered from the wind. I ended up with 12 keepers but the size was better than Thursday.

We had a place near Holiday Lodge for 25 years. I cant tell you how many capsized boats I saw on that lake over the years.
Most lakes there is somewhere to get out of the wind. Not Sardis. I swear the wind blows from the center of the lake in all directions at the same time. It is a crazy phenomenon. I swear I've been fishing on the North side of the lake and the wind and waves be pushing me up on the bank, so I go to the South side of the lake and have the same thing happen! Our rule of thumb is double whatever the wind forecast is, then decide if it's a good day to fish.

Yea it's crazy.

What's even crazier is fishing with your bilge pump running non stop to pump the water out that is coming in over the front of the boat. I've done that more times than I can remember. One morning I pulled up at Wyatts Crossing and the waves were insane. There were two guys there with Missouri tags and a small 16 foot shallow fishing boat. I told them they could ride across to Buzzards Roost with me and I was sure we would all limit out before noon.

We took off and bounced off trees for 30 minutes. Finally got across the lake to my spot, tied off to a tree with a rope and I told them to start fishing. Bilge pump constantly running and we had 90 tush hogs in the boat in less than two hours.

On the trip back boat went down a roller and hung up on a stump, turned us up on our side and did a complete 360. Almost swamped us in the middle of the lake. LoL We made it back to the ramp and those guys said it was the wildest fishing trip they'd ever been on.

I'm still friends with them today and that was 30 years ago.

So many memories on that lake. My Dad passed away in 2012 and I've never been back to Sardis one time since then. Just too painful for me...

Great stories! Sorry to hear about your Dad. That's tough. I wonder if you fished with some of the old timers I fish with. I've never heard anyone outside our circle say tush hog. And they've told me similar stories about the fluorescent caps that you told here. Your Dad wasn't in a fish camp on the "south" side of 310 just east of the road to Holiday Lodge, was he?

One of my fishing buddies went to Sardis Friday. He fought the wind most of the day and had 7. He said it was bad.
We had 17,thought that was pretty good for us cranking.I have only pulled cranks once in 2yrs until this weekend.Since it was the weekend of crankfest we figured we would crank instead of livescope for a change.

Yes that's right where we were. Maybe 200 or so yards east of the road to Holiday Lodge. Little brick house right on 310.

There were three of us in my 16' 48" with a 40 Nissan. We were all soaking wet when we got back to the ramp. Probably close to a mile across the lake there in nothing but dead standing timber and stumps.
We were fishing in 3 foot of water tied off to a tree with 20 or so feet of rope.
I lost a lot of paint off that old boat that day.

Fiberglass boat would never had made it.
