I posted this to TN Deerhunters so some of y'all have seen it but will put it over here for those that haven't....backstory the turkey population has gone steadily downhill in my neck of the woods for the last 3 years or so and I had been twice before Friday .....no gobbles on opener and a few distant gobbles on other land tracts on Thursday. So Friday I stayed home to cut a bit of wood for the current cold snap and this is where it began about noon...

Ok after complaining yesterday that I hadn't heard a huntable gobble, I heard one today. I was actually cutting wood at the house, thought I heard a gobble!....then oh hell yes that was a gobble!! Put the dogs up, grabbed my stuff and hot footed it across the holler...climbed the other side, sat down out of breath on a dead log, and sent some clucks and sweet yelps. He cut my yelps off about 200 yds away...sent a few more a minute or so later and he cut me off again about 100 yds away....he slipped in through a route I couldn't see and I thought 'is that drumming'?...hell yes it was, he appeared suddenly at 20 yards and I should have been more prepared...he putted as I got the gun up and shot at that flaming red head..but it was too late for him...the fastest most exciting hunt I've ever had...he basically mugged me...tale of the tape: 1 1/4" spurs, 10" beard, 21.6#, 20 yds, Benelli M2, Federal TSS #9s, Jebs .665, Albert Paul box that makes even me a turkey caller-awesome call....moral...some come in running...if you send a call better be ready....you may run across one that is hot to trot....
Don't know if the pics will show or not
