Well my trip is over and it had it's ups and downs. I found out the hard way, after spending countless hours trying, that these strong new moon tides are the worst for catching seatrout. I found out after going into Southern Drawl Outfitters and asking the guides about it. The trout head to deeper water to find cooler water and avoid the strong tide currents. This is all but impossible to fish out of a kayak. I tried everything and did not catch a single trout the whole time I was down there.

I did manage to get the kayak wayyyy up in the grass on high tides, way farther than a boat can get, and I was in some redfish! I spooked several by not knowing they were around until it was too late. I casted to a few that didn't take and also landed several keepers at the upper end of the slot. All of them around 22 inches, perfect!! I got them on Trout Tricks and SUMKINA Bubble Belly swimbaits.

Storms sent me home early more than once and kept me from coming back for the evening high tides. I had to leave a day and a half early because of the bad storms coming in so that was a bummer.

I'll be making this an annual trip, but will stick to doing it in October so I still have plenty of redfish around but also will have a better chance at seatrout.

Looks like you made the best out of not perfect conditions. Congrats on the redfish.

I will be heading to Cape San Blas in a few weeks to fish St. Josephs Bay for speckled trout. It is a yearly trip for our family and I haul my boat down there for specks and also scalloping. Saltwater fishing is what I was raised on and is still my favorite.

We just got back from there. Go every year. We stayed in Hibiscas (home name was Horizon). Its on the beach though. About 1/4 mile up from the trading post. Had private access to the dock on the Bay.
