Took my best friend Skippy fishing the other day. Fishing was slow but managed one in the boat and he was pleased. I can't believe how good these hybrids taste. Skippy especially likes the skin. If I could only outfit him with a rod of his own. would he require a license???

Good deal but from the pic that doesn't look like a hybrid, just a regular Striped Bass

Man, Skippy got his own dog bowl and bed. He's a happy camper now that he's trained his master to catch fish too.

That is very cool man. Nice Striper and yes they're great eating. Is Skippy a Golden Retriever? We have a Golden/Yellow Lab mix that I've tried to take in my kayak with hopes of taking her along fishing..she won't stay in the yak more than a minute. All she wants to do is swim!

Yeh, on Tim's. Skippy will swim but only when he has to. Not fond of staying in for a period of time, of which he did that day. Stripes on that fish were broken on the upper part of the body, unlike the previous "hybrid" I caught the week before (broken up on the lower part of body). Is this still a full blood striper???

I'd say yeah full striper. Hybrid usually have very noticeable breaks through out. I see a few breaks near his dorsal as well, but I'd still say striper, or a hybrid doing a great imitation lol,

That's also absolutely 100% Striper. The broken lines thing isn't an accurate way to tell the difference. The more football bodied shape is how you can tell them apart. Stripers are more streamline shaped. Be careful identifying them. I believe on most waters the limit in TN is 2 fish in combination of Hybrid or Striper but just in case you're on a body of water that has different size/creel limits for those two fish you don't want to get a ticket.

The theory of broken lines is believed by a lot of people but it is certainly not correct. I've caught many Stripers with broken lines. I can immediately tell by the shape of the fish.

x2 The shape is a dead giveaway between a striper and hybrid.

Thanks y'all for the striper ID lesson. I think limit is 2, both stripe and hybrid, at Tim's. Minimum 15". Do they ever feed on top at Tim's???

I don't fish Tim's often but Stripers and Hybrids both will smash a topwater if you're there at the right time. Last year I had a 30+" one hit a topwater, that sure was fun in a kayak! Pearl fluke and a 1/4oz jighead is my go-to combo for them. If I want to try topwater, I like to throw a KVD Sexy Dawg. Pencil Poppers work well for them too, although I haven't hooked one yet on that thing.

And as tasty as they are, just a little FYI - the smaller ones taste better. I've eaten them over 30" and still would. They're pretty good but I was constantly told to release those and keep 20-24" fish. I listened earlier this Summer and they were correct, much better tasting fish.
