Hey catman, I saw a hen today with an 8 inch beard that looked to weigh about 35 lbs. You in on her with me come fall?

yeah, only over decoys, maybe we can even reap her in with a tail fan because she's the boss hen. Then soak the meat in Allegro and fry until dark brown.

I wasn't aware you could cook a turkey without allegro.

Having eaten both, there's zero difference in the taste, texture, or anything else other than the size of the bird. If it's all about the meat a hungry Hunter would only target mature gobblers. Twice as much meat, same great flavor and never tough if cooked properly
Uhmmm, you must have dentures (meaning numb gums)or have no clue how to cook wild game and can tell the difference.JMO
You say "If it's all about the meat a hungry Hunter would only target mature gobblers". lmfao... HUNGRY Hunter would kill anything in his zone. It is about hunting but it is not about just YOUR standards.

Since when did the Turkey forum become the unofficial Grumpy Old Man forum?
Only a select few make it that way, unfortunately

Poached anything lately or did you suddenly decide to give that up after getting caught red handed?

Always love the high ground stance by a known poacher.

I've killed 1 bearded hen in my 24 yrs hunting them . It was a fall hunt and I called up a flock of 50 plus birds. Shot one didn't see the beard until I picked her up. It hangs with the rest of them on the beard board. I've passed up numerous bearded hens. Seen one in Kentucky last spring that was a good 9" long. Never even crossed my mind to shoot.

Love how a yes or no question turns into a debate on why their opinions on turkey hunting where given to them by The Lord himself.

I killed one two years ago. I won't do it again, not because I think it's wrong, but I've got that checked off the list.

I plan on belly crawling to a roosted bearded hen. Then use a fan to block her view of me when I set up my ground blind and flock of motorized decoys. I may use a call I bought at Walmart to settle her down before I shoot her off the roost. I will then carry her past three groups of hunters on public ground while hitting a crow call to see where the gobblers are for tomorrows hunt on public land. When I get to my four-wheeler, I will ride the long way back to the truck. Then post the gory head picture using Tapatalk. I will stay in my camo all day while I drive my Hunting stickered up truck around showing the bird to my friends and filling up my Yeti with ice....My Costas will make me look cool.....

I think I hit all the bases.
That was awesome! :super:

Some of you dudes need to get a grip on reality and grow up. If you go back and read some of the crap yall are putting on here some of you are way worse then you claim setterman is. You just keep egging it on and posting stuff just to get s rise out of some. If you going to just troll for responses then quit trying to call out others for doing the same. Damn some of yall act like teenagers

I'm going turkey hunting at my parents house this weekend. Im not a big turkey Hunter but I'm hungry for turkey and I want to shoot one with my bow. Bearded hen, jake, Tom, which ever shows first gets shot. there is two bearded hens in my dads yard every evening. Not lots of birds in green hills. :)

Hope there aren't any bird feeders around or you'll be hunting over bait.

We have a bearded hen on our place that is old as dirt, seriously she is at least 6 if not closer to 10. She hangs out in the same pasture behind the house. Crazy thing is her beard grew to about 6" or so and has not grown anymore. She has a noticeable limp type of gait to her, so its easy to pick her out.

She usually has 4 or so poults with her every summer, so why would I kill her? I doubt she taste any better than 2-3 yr old tom, she weighs 1\2 what a tom weighs and killing her would be easy.

I have killed a bearded hen before, that was when I was much more hungry for "A" kill, didnt matter what it was. I'll admit it.
I had a bearded hen out in the field yesterday that I passed on.
Not above killing a hen but I just know a little more about turkeys now.
