250xtp have worked well and also the SST in 250-300g, love not having to beat bullets down the barrel after shooting. Sometimes you get to go for a 2fer, Going to wearem out this year with 300g SST and may shoot 1 with a power belt for old times sake

Every 250 gr xtp i have ever loaded was a pain in the butt to push down the barrel

I use N110 at the moment, have ran a couple pounds through it over the years, kicks a bit but love shooting it. Shame powder has gotten $$$

Yep. The XTP 250 and the MMP Shoet Black Sabots after getting around the smokeless foundation . I loved the group's and the results but not the follow up on the reloads. I knew there had to be a better way and I found it. The 300 grain pills .. pick ur favorite and the orange MMP SABOTS ARE the easy to load and consist to shoot. Never a misfire inane weather. Ive shot them in up to 10 degree weather and they fire . Im not sure about sub degree yet. I don't intend on getting there. So don't come at me :)

I've never shot the 300s, but I did experience misfires with sabots other than the mmp shorts. It seems with mine, if it loads easier it is prone to misfire.

I've shot the Barnes Originals and Hornady ftx in the .458 size with the orange mmp sabotage. I shoot it with 5744 and reloder 7 for ten years now, they always shoot well

It was definitely sabot related. The rifle was pretty new at the time and I wanted to try an easier loading sabot. I used the crush rib sabots and when loaded and fired immediately they worked. When I carried the rifle hunting and then tried to shoot I had issues. Never a misfire with the regular short MMP.

Have you cleaned your flame channel ? Do you know how to clean it ? This is very important. A fouled flame channel will greatly reduce flame to the charge.

Not sure I'm understanding your statement.
Down the barrel your charge is before the sabot or whatever kind of bullet you're using, how would that make a difference on a miss fire?
Only misfire I've ever had was when I didn't pay attention to my cleaning patches and had lost one. Dumped my charge on top of it and popped 3-4 caps before realizing I had a BIG problem.

If you don't have a tight enough seal you can have a misfire.

Yes, with a drill bit also your vent liner can needs maintenance as well. Savage will tell you you have to use the right sabot. I tried to go with easier loading and crush rib and it didn't work.

I never tried those. I tried the black ones.

The reds are thicker, they're made for smokeless.

If your bore is that loose, its a good candidate for .458" diameter projectiles. To stick with 250gr, Hornady makes the all copper version of the sst but at full .458" diameter. For a full bore bullet similar to an xtp, Hornady has the #4500 300gr hollow point.

Winchester primers seal better but Federals are hotter which may help your ignition.

There are better powders out there like n110 that lights easy and is super clean burning.

Mine either if I use anything other than the short black ones the bullet won't go 10 yards and the sabot usually won't exist the barrel. I own two of them and have two buddies that have them and all 4 guns do the same thing.
