My mom and grandmother would can them and make fish patties and you wouldn't notice the little bones.
Mine also did that, and actually, a few of them came from the same lake Ruger caught this one!
Think that was back when the lake was new, first stocking.
But have also caught them in the West TN swamps.

We also made "salmon patties" from carp back then as well.
The bones just dissolved, so we ate bones & all.

About the only West TN fish we didn't eat was gar.
I think Simms has a recipe for the East TN gar that come from clear water?

I actually thought about him last night when I had fried crappie on a paper plate. I put ketchup on my plate and told my wife I needed to learn to make freezer slaw. I had never heard of freezer slaw until I saw Woodyard and Ruger's posts about it.

Just to think that was just two days ago. Who would of thought that he would be gone?
I'm sure he didn't have a clue.
Lifes short my friends, cherish every day. I wake up every morning, look out the window and thank God for allowing me to see another sunrise. Only God knows when it will be my last.
We're gonna miss you Ruger! Thanks for the memories!!

This is the last plate pic he sent in one of our groups. He knew I hated tartar sauce, ketchup, onions, mustard, mayo, sour cream, etc and always laughed when I said all looks good besides all that other crap.

Never would have thought that would be the last fish dinner he would enjoy

No doubt. Makes you wish you could go back in time a week and get him to a hospital. We just never know until its too late.
I was thinking last night that I remember him texting our group last week or week before last saying he's had a headache he couldn't get rid of for a few days. Obviously none of us ever think it's anything and maybe it wasn't. But got me to thinking last night maybe there was something to it. I know he'd been to the doctor last week. He showed me last Friday where his left arm was bruised. He'd had blood work done and said it swelled up to the size of a golf ball where they drew blood and after it went down it was bruised.

I wonder what the blood work showed. They almost sent me home the night i went to er because they said all my blood work was absolutely perfect.

Yesterday I drove by the little "convenient" store in Dresden where Ruger used to stop to by crickets.
Every time I drive by there, I think of Ruger excitedly going in to get crickets.

He sure loved the bream fishing, and was perhaps the best bream fisherman in Tennessee.
Best bream filleter, best bream cooker, too.
