17hmr vs .22

Which do you prefer for small game and why?

another question would be any good air rifles for small game? never used one but just a thought!

I ear holed one last year. Went in one ear and out the other… I couldn't see any damage to the ears, wild

I head or rib shoot them, ribs makes it harder to skin when you use a 17hmr, in little and out big lol, 100y shots are pretty easy , use the 22 most of the time

I prefer the .22. I shoot sub-sonics and don't feel that it's necessary to hunt with ear plugs. When I hunt with my .17 hmr, I definitely have to wear some sort of hearing protection.

17 head shoot them, i can head shoot them much further with my 17

.22 preferred for me, I want to take any shot the squirrel presents, and I want some meat left too. Also, much easier to stock up on .22 ammo, even when it gets scarce vs 17 HMR. If it was easily reloadable it may be a different story, but for rimfire I will stick with .22.

22. More than adequate powered, cbeey accurate and inexpensive….plus l about 30k of them laying around

22 for me I hunt with dogs don't need me 17 they tear to much up simple head shot with a 22 works every time you hit your mark

Oh my boys use a cross man around the house and kill plenty .177 I think it's 800 fps head shot and done too

22LR and 22cal benjamin air rifle with 4x16-42 scope. Both lethal for tree rats, groundhogs too. I got 5 groundhogs last summer with the 22cal benjamin all head shots out to 40yrds.
