another question would be any good air rifles for small game? never used one but just a thought!

I head or rib shoot them, ribs makes it harder to skin when you use a 17hmr, in little and out big lol, 100y shots are pretty easy , use the 22 most of the time

I prefer the .22. I shoot sub-sonics and don't feel that it's necessary to hunt with ear plugs. When I hunt with my .17 hmr, I definitely have to wear some sort of hearing protection.

.22 preferred for me, I want to take any shot the squirrel presents, and I want some meat left too. Also, much easier to stock up on .22 ammo, even when it gets scarce vs 17 HMR. If it was easily reloadable it may be a different story, but for rimfire I will stick with .22.
