Made to the top of Chilhowee Mountain this weekend. It was a rough trek but well worth the view. Half a mile straight up, and 8 miles hiked all together. What i found was there were signs of deer but no particular patterns, just sort of a couple spread out rubs and a trail here n' there. and the occasional fresh bear scat as well. This terrain is something else. Its probably the closest thing to "out west hunting" that one could get here in TN. Long hikes, long drags, and plenty of glassing. Everything from Thick Rhodo & mtn laurel, to open hardwoods & logged cuts. Hunting in places like that ain't for the faint of heart.

Beautiful area. I never deer hunted it but dad use to take me to squirrel hunt there and we use to camp near the lake. I also use to mountain bike there a lot when I was younger and it is a wonder I wasn't killed taking the trail down the mountain. We use to have some one take us up top then race them down the mountain to the clemmer trailhead.

I'm jealous of your trek! Keep "scout hunting," and you'll eventually figure out where to settle in, next deer season. 👍

In case anyone pulls this thread on Google in the next 10+ years, reminder that S Cherokee deer season dates do not directly match statewide season. (Obviously you know this)

Beautiful country for sure. In my younger days I hunted Ocoee and Tellico, got "turned around" in Jeffries Hell. Jumped a hog in a laurel thicket trying to find my way out of there, no way I was going to shoot it cause there was no way I was going to drag it around not knowing which way the road was lol.
Ahh the memories!! Enjoy it while you can, I wish I could still climb the Mountains.

You beat me to it.
I grew up in Bradley Co., we used to go over to the mountains about every weekend.
Mountain biked that crazy trail more times than I can remember. Hiked all along the top and innards of that mountain. Seen a few bears, and a coupe of deer, some hot chicks and busloads of hippies back in the day.
