My wife has been hunting with me a few times in the past, but never anything too serious. We'd usually just got sit in our box blind and never shoot anything we saw. A couple of years ago she decided she wanted to try to shoot one. I got my 30-30 out and we did some target practice. She was hitting a 3" circle at 100 yards no problem. Pretty good considering she had never shot a gun before that - except for maybe a .22 a few times. We went the next day, and saw a good buck, but she couldn't get a shot at it.

She's never took her own gun or even shot a rifle since then.

Today we were going to visit my parents in West TN. I was going to hunt this evening and take the boys with me. She asked me to pack her clothes and "that little gun" (the 30-30). She wanted to go. She sat in my 2-man tripod on the edge of a field with the kids. I sat in a hang-on stand in the woods about 30 yards behind her facing the opposite direction.

The boys got restless after about 45 minutes, so they walked to their 4 wheeler and went home.

I sat in my stand another 20 minutes, then sent my wife a message and told her I was going to come sit in the tripod with her.

I was walking to her slowly.. and as soon as I could see out in the field, I saw a doe standing out there. I immediately knelt down and waited.. about 30 seconds later.. BOOOM.

I jumped up to see if she hit the deer. There was a doe running hard to the left, and 5 others running the other direction. She said she picked out the biggest one.

We immediately found the blood trail. She shot it at about 75 yards and made a perfect shot through the shoulder. Lots of bright red blood. The doe ran just to the edge of the woods and didn't make it any farther.

I had more fun this evening than I would have if I killed one myself. I was really surprised that she actually decided to shoot. I figured she just wanted to take a gun so the boys felt like they were really hunting with her. :D

Also... I field dressed the deer and ran it to Yoder's. They were closed when I got there, but had signs up saying they were not taking any deer due to the shortage of workers with the sicknesses going around. The signs said to check their Facebook page for updates.

Their facebook page says they're accepting skinned deer only right now. So, I gotta get up in the morning and skin the thing and run it back up there.

If it weren't for their summer sausage with cheese and jalapenos I'd just turn it all in to jerky myself. (except the tenderloin!)

Just realized Yoders is only taking BONELESS meat. Guess I won't be getting summer sausage this week!

I have no experience with them but have seen the sign on hwy 45 north going into greenfield for a deer processor.

Congratulations you your wife.
Yep. I know the one you're talking about. I was just going to use Yoders because I live their summer sausage. I'll just break it down myself tomorrow and make jerky out of the whole thing.

Congrats! Yep I seen a thing on fb a few weeks ago that they weren't taking deer. But I had to stop going to them 2 years ago because I can't take a deer out of Ky anymore. Sucks my parents live on state line rd on the Tn side and I can't even take it there. I have found a good place in Ky I go to but still prefer Yoder's.
