For now at least. I'm going with my Asolo boots and a pair of Crack Shot snake gaiters ($60 on Amazon). I'm excited about not having wet feet this year.
The gaiters are very lightweight (claim to be 11 oz each). They fold up nicely and can easily fit in my vest. I think they will be much cooler in the heat than snake boots since they are attached at the base. I can just wear my boots hiking in on cool mornings and put them in once it heats up.
I've seen too many copperheads and rattlesnakes not to wear some type of protection. These aren't any noisier than snake boots and don't make any noise when walking. If they wear out, I'd rather replace gaiters every year than snake boots.
