Just wondering if anyone has ever hunted southern West Virginia in one of the archery only counties. Thinking about taking a road trip and look around.
Very rural area, the state made 4 counties archery only back in the '70s because of low deer numbers and never lifted the archery only. Why is it archery only? Is it a metro area?
I have been thinking about that area last few years also. Rough hunting is what I'm used to.Been looking at them last couple years, haven't made the trip yet. Some giants come out of those counties every year. Rough hunting but could very well be worth it.
Very true about the locals. Don't think it's as bad as it used to be but would be careful parking on the side of a road in the wide open maybe. Some big Deer in the area. Very rough terrain. The locals don't take kindly to out of state hunters there. My uncle went twice. Had tires slashed both times. But that was 15-20 years ago.
If you go. Look me up. I'm not far from that area.
Thats awesome. i bet there are some beasts in thereVery rural area, the state made 4 counties archery only back in the '70s because of low deer numbers and never lifted the archery only.
Dang, sounds like some of the stories I've heard about guys going to Arkansas to duck hunt. Need to buy a set of dummy WV plates off the innernets for temporary installment while you're hunting! Some big Deer in the area. Very rough terrain.
