I was looking in my gun case yesterday and ran across a box of these 3.5" shells I used to shoot in a Rem. 870. Got me wondering if anyone still shoots these?

Yes sir! Also 3.5" in 10ga.
A few years ago Bass Pro ran the 3.5 inch Federal TSS 12 gauge on sale for $24.99 a box. I probably bought enough to last the rest of my turkey hunting days. Overkill? Nah. You can't make them too dead.

I stopped that bad habit a few years ago. I've got a ton of 3.5 turkey loads I'll probably never shoot. I made the 20 gauge TSS swap and will never go back.
Saw a stat a long while back about felt recoil on 12 gauge turkey loads. Came in around 70lbs for 3" so prob 75-80 for 3.5.
To out into perspective a 300win man is about 27-30 if I remember correctly. Point of the story is those suckers KICK hahah

Yeah I tote the 835 out every once in a while. I got a few boxes of 3.5 years ago when that was all I hunted and I hate not to get it out every once in a while

Negative. Good for yal that do. Not my thing any more.
Stopped about 2 years ago but was shooting 3 1/2" Winchester extended range #5's. Shot them out of every 12 gauge I ever hunted with.

I can't stand the punishment of a 12 ga 3/3.5 shell. Since I went to 20/410 TSS my eyeballs stay focused. Kills them just as dead
I've gone the other way and only shoot 2 3/4".
You dang right. I still have the 870 super mag pushing 2 1/2 oz of TSS rolled by yours truly. Is it overkill? Absolutely but I like it. If I misjudge 40 and he's 45 it dont matter.

I shoot a 3.5 inch in my 935 Mossberg,kick not that bad to me as my 835 was!

No. My "little" brother carries it now…6'3" 230. My 12ga 3.5" days are likely all but over.
Had a NEF Handi rifle in 270 Win. It was the first deer rifle I ever owned. Sent the action back to them and they fitted a 50 cal MZL barrel for it and also the little 12 ga turkey barrel chambered for 3.5" shells. The gun with that short little barrel didn't weigh 6 pounds if I recall and I might not be that smart, but I wasn't stupid enough to shoot any longer than 3" shells in it. They hurt bad enough as it was

Sure don't know how anyone could "like" such heavy recoil for so little gain in range.
I can say that shooting 1 1/2 oz of TSS in my 20 gauges
And truly "like" the mild recoil.
When I experimented with various 12 ga 3 1/2" turkey loads (years ago), with my Mossberg 935, the recoil wasn't too bad up to @ 1 3/4 & 1 7/8 oz payloads. But could definately tell a significant increase in "kick" going to the 2 oz Winchester Extended Range loads of those days. When I tried 2 1/4 oz loads, found it bone-jarring, even with a gas-operated autoloader.
No desire to try a 2 1/2 oz load! Nor to carry a heavy 12 ga gun.
