To close out this thread - I picked a 1986 BDL model 7600 a few weeks back. I put in a shorter sear spring, put on a 2 piece set of Talley ring/mounts, a butt pad, a cheek riser, and a fixed 4x. Infoman Jr is right about the safety - I find that I don't instinctively use the safety on this gun like I do my shotguns. Odd. And it isn't ideal, but is something other safety skills should trump. I had 4 different boxes/makers/grains of .30-06 laying around. This morning I found out this old gun shoots 165g Core-Lokts at 1". It handles like a cross b/t a Wingmaster and a Model 7. And it is so much quicker with a follow-up than my bolt actions. I'm thrilled to take it out this November. I might even try and find another in this good of shape for my son.
