My brothers and I got on a Contender kick for a while. All three of us had 14" bull-barrel versions in different calibers. The first deer I ever killed in TN was with a 14" 357 Herrett (30-30 case trimmed down and necked out to 357). Picture below. The round was a bit much for whitetails (it was designed for elk). One of my brothers had a 7mm TCU, which is a 223 necked out to 7mm. That is a sweet shooting gun. Off a rest, I watched him shoot a 1" group at 200 yards with it. He killed a few deer with it as well.
I bought a Ruger Super Redhawk in 44 Mag for hunting but I could never find a round that it would shoot accurately. I tried all the factory ammo and tried many, many handloads from hot to mild, and heavy to light bullet and nothing would shoot well out of it. Perhaps I needed some custom work on the forcing cone.
