Went back to the point and clearing where I had a gobbler come in behind me at 10 yards yesterday. Got him gobbling on the roost, but this time I was in a better position. Heard him hit the ground, but lost the chance when he stuck his head up over a rise and spotted me. Turned and headed downhill slowly, gobbling all the way. I sat there for a while and heard a second gobbler on the other side of the clearing, about a half mile away and on the other side of a deep hollow. I repositioned and began to work him. Eventually, he answered me and started coming, although he stayed on the other side of the hollow, which has a creek at the bottom of it. Once he got directly across from me, he shut up. After about 15 minutes, I heard a cluck, then a gobble, this time on my side of the creek. Eventually his head popped up, then another. Both were jakes, but this one had an unusual beard. It actually curled up rather than down. After a few seconds, and sensing they were getting ready to bolt, I took the shot. He hit the dirt, his partner flew up into a tree, and another unseen jake flew up from the cover to his left. Turned out to be an 18 pound 5 inch jake with a double beard. First double bearded turkey I've taken.
