I killed this one inside the cover of my poncho. About the time he flew down the rain started. I scrambled to get the poncho on and covered my calls with the rest of it. I was sure glad to have it.
I shocked him at 5:55 with an owl hoot. Killed him at 6:15. I can't believe the holler he walked out of. I made the mistake of not grabbing him either. No matter how dead they look hold him! He never twitched when the 2oz load of 9's hit him...until he did and then he went 100 yards over the hill. A long way from the bottom still but man that was a ruff hike out. One step and slide back
17.10 Pounds
7/8" Spurs
8 1/2" Beard
Calls used were Harrison Hoot'N'Stick
Woodhaven Cluck n Purr pot w/ Matt McLain Dogwood Striker
Sassafras Original Jolley Scratch Tube
Woodhaven Ninja Hammer mouth call.
Used the purr pot for tree yelps and the Jolley tube once he flew down. Then one series of yelps on the mouth call once the rain started.
He gobbled 2 times on the ground and never made another sound until he appeared in front of me. Fortunately I had positioned myself where he appeared. He soaked me in blood coming up the hill.
