Homemade septic system?

Has anyone had good luck with a septic system made out of 55 gallon barrels for remote areas. Just trying to get some ideas for a small hunting trailer in the woods.

There's a book called 5 Acres and Independance. IIRC it has plans for exactly what you are describing. I'll check my copy when I get home.

Chief, Thats what I normally due for the past 2 years but now that I am placing a trailer on my property I would like to have some of the comforts of home and where else am I suppose to read!

Why not buy one of the portable tanks on wheels they make for transporting the waste , then drain it into your septic tank (if you have one) when you get home ?

Thanks for all the info. I will keep looking for something to use as a tank. Your replys are to funny and I am not sure if airport security will let me wheel on a holding tank let alone what the rest of the passengers might have to say! Just a little Fire Dept. Humor!
