This buck showed up this morning. I haven't seen him since last year. He will be a great buck in 2 years! What are the odds his weak side will ever match the other side?

He could be a super buck if he makes it two years. We don't typically get bucks that we can identify from one year to the next. That said, he looks like what I would expect a 3.5 year old to look like this time of year.

I had one similar last year, also with a strong right side. He survived the year and looked great this year so far. He actually evened out pretty well. I'm hoping he survives but I caught a trespasser(story for another time) and he admitted they'd already killed a nice 8 on the other side of the farm. I'm worried it was this buck but hoping not. As much as he grew from 2.5 to 3.5 I was really excited to see what he could be at 4.5 or even 5.5. Unfortunately as low odds as it is to see one survive due to neighbors hunting, it's even harder when poachers are sneaking in & killing them where they're supposed to be safe.

I agree with BSK... looks like a run down 3.5yo....

The only thing making me think 2.5 is his tarsals.

Most 3.5yos have a LOT more staining of their tarsals by late Dec. If he is 2.5, he's a good one.

But I'm afraid his mainframe is set. The weak side prob won't ever match the strong side
