There may be nothing to this but rumor is he could leave the Wildcats for the Razorbacks. Most Kentucky fans may love for him to go and not have to pay his buyout and he may not be happy there . If this happened , Nate Oates would be my first call to come to Lexington . All interesting but only speculation right now.

As an Arkansas fan I am pumped. UK fans got spoiled, and may want him out but he has only 2 losing seasons as a HC.

I'll take it

Great hire for Arkansas but also a good night for KY. Sometimes people just need a change. As long as KY doesn't botch their next hire both sides will come out ahead on this deal.

Oh he wants to go, I have no problem with the move. Regardless of the past few years, KY is still the premier college basketball school. Our fans travel like no other. I just hope the next coach will be as good as an ambassador for the state as Cal as been.

I told my wife the night that Oakland beat KY and the way Cal looked walking off the floor that he more than likely has coached his last game at KY. Maybe it'll be a fresh start for both teams. I never wanted to see him go. Not saying his time was up a while ago but who would KY get to replace him is what I always said.

I'd love to get Pearl but don't see him leaving Auburn. Oats would be a good choice too but don't see him leaving Bama. Jay Wright probably won't get back into coaching. But who knows, it's a dog eat dog world in the coaching industry. They have the best jobs out there. Get paid big money and if they don't do good then just get paid out a massive amount of their contract (which Cal won't get because he is choosing to leave) and onto the next one.

Cal is past his prime. He brings in the top kids but the last 4 years his NCAA record is 1-3 games. Today other schools are doing the same thing and BETTER than Cal by signing the top people. Maybe it's time because the pressure at UK is super high, too high if you can't handle it.

From the article.

For Calipari to leave the highest-profile job in college basketball to take a second-tier gig in the same conference, he had to be desperate to move on from Kentucky. He had to know that he was never going to recapture the magic from the first half of his Kentucky tenure when the Wildcats were competing for Final Fours and national titles and he probably could have run for state governor and won in a landslide.
It seemed that Kentucky was stuck with a coach who was no longer the right man for the job. Calipari had been slow to embrace basketball's 3-point revolution, slow to recognize that college basketball was trending older and more transfer-heavy, slow to adjust to it getting harder to build a national title contender around one-and-dones.

He should have gone out when he was on top. Too many people push for too long.

It is hard to win in the tournament with a bunch of freshmen. The one and dones made him a victim of his own recruiting success.

Heard about it on the radio this morning and thought it was a joke. Good for him. He can have some decent runs at Arkansas and retire off in the sunset without the pressure of Kentucky fans hating him. Just be careful what you wish for. The grass ain't always greener on the other side.
Your right Kentucy was all in with Calipari alumni and all so Arkansas better get ready to lay down the dough .
