Shoot it through the lungs & can't spray. Got one out of one of my traps last week, not a squirt.
I was very skeptical the first time I did it, but it definitely works! Collapse the lungs & nothing to push the scent out. The first time I tried it 3 years ago, I totally missed the skunk at 15-20 feet with . 22 rifle as I was already running the other way while pulling trigger 😂!!! Once I settled down, it worked like a charm. Have probably killed 15-20 since then in traps without a single spray.

Yeah that's what I'll do. Kids checked their trap after I left for work. So I'll take care of it when I get off. If it don't spray, it will make a cool pelt

Slowly walk up to the trap with an old sheet in front of you and drop it over the trap. You can then pick the trap up and carry it away from houses. A nearby creek or pond works well to keep them from spraying.

Skunks dig out and eliminate yellow jackets nests. If can be helpful to have a couple of them around, not too many though.

Have you ever seen the ground dug up, and pieces of the nest scattered around? Most of the time that's from a skunk.

How were you baiting the trap? I always worried about catching a skunk, but haven't caught one yet.
Dog food in live trap with some fish oil or rotten fruit works in a live trap. They will also get caught in dog proofs with just about anything for bait. I actually dont mind catching them they are calmer than most anything that I have caught and i have been sprayed and the smell don't seem to bother me anymore. It sorta smells like extra strong coffee to me

I've been dying to try this, but since y'all told me about this a while back, I haven't caught one. I know one thing - head shots produce a spray 100% of the time 🤣

They also catch mice and eat grubs. If it was not for the smell and possibility of rabies they wouldn't be to bad to have around.

They do carry rabies. That's what got the lady's mule rabid that lived next to my cousin. They heard her screaming and got there too late. The mule killed her. They found the skunk close by.
